OPEN HOUSE AT THE MITCHELL HOME – While not officially on the 2015 Owosso Historic Home Tour, the home known locally as the Mitchell residence, at 900 W. Oliver, was open to the public for three hours during the tour on Saturday, then two hours on Sunday.
There was a steady stream of visitors during the open house with many having to wait their turn in line outside the front door.
The home is currently on the market and listed by realtor Deb Henry with Tomie Raines, Inc. out of East Lansing. It has recently been updated but many of the original finishes have been retained including the original Italian tiles in the entry at the front door, the French silk wallpaper from the 1940s in the grand foyer as well as the majority of the bathrooms. Of note is the Carrara marble fireplace (top left photo) located in the family room, which was a 1940s addition to the home.
The basement houses a canning area (bottom left photo) with three original but newly refinished enamel sinks. More of the home can be seen at www.900Oliver.com. (Independent photos/JANAE FEAR)
