THERESA HENDERSON is shown representing the Michigan League of Handweavers (MLH), a group of approximately 21 weaving guilds including 260 members from Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. The Michigan League of Handweavers has roots dating back to the 1930s when Hartland, MI was the handweaving center of the U.S. The league was officially formed in 1959 to continue the art of handweaving.
Pieces in the show are intricate and varied, including “Ascension,” a best-in-show piece created by Jane Blacquiere, a 2nd-place fiber art piece created by Nancy Crampton, and numerous others represented under either fiber art or functional art. Each piece is completely unique, utilizing different materials, colors, textures, and function, with some pieces offering more of a 2D approach and others being completely sculptural.
