The Owosso City Council during the 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, meeting will formally send a communication to the city Planning Commission regarding a proposed change in the distance requirements for medical marijuana centers.

The proposal requests consideration of an amendment to the zoning ordinance that would require marijuana dispensaries to be a specific distance from addiction treatment centers. Specific distances are already required from schools, playgrounds, residentially zoned property and churches. That would go to the planning commission for its meeting later in the month. The final decision on that rests with the city council.
