THOUSANDS OF CAR LOVERS flocked to Durand on Saturday, Aug. 31 for the 30th annual End of Summer Cruisin’ Car Show, including Chelsea native Tom Durand, who was awarded the Mayor’s Choice award from Durand Mayor Deb Doyle. Tom discovered the End of Summer Cruisin’ Car Show in 1990 and the car enthusiast has become an End of Summer Cruisin’ regular, attending every year. Diabetes has limited Tom’s vision, so this year he was escorted by his sister, Diane Durand, who drove from her home in Grand Rapids to transport her brother to Durand from behind the wheel of his 1999 Indy 500 Festival Chevrolet Camaro, one of only 45-such vehicles produced.
Tom accepted his award from End of Summer Cruisin’ committee member Bruce Tomlinson before accepting a hug from Mayor Deb Doyle (top right).
