To assist local families in need, the Durand Memorial Branch of the Shiawassee District Library is collecting nonperishable food and personal healthcare items, as well as children’s hats, mittens, and scarves. Items can be dropped off at the branch during regular library hours. The library is open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, and from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
During 2017, more than 400 food and personal care items have already been donated and distributed through the Loaves and Fishes food bank. These items are collected throughout the year.
The library will also accept donations of children’s hats, mittens, and scarves through the end of January. Homemade and newly purchased items are welcome. For more information, individuals can contact the library at (989) 288-3743.
