“Owosso Community Players is tickled pink to present Legally Blonde: The Musical this September,” said OCP Executive Director Kathy Brooks. “Audiences can head to the Lebowsky Center Sept. 11 through 13 and 18 through 20 as Elle Woods heads to Harvard Law in pursuit of her one true love. Elle finds her true potential along the way, inspiring her friends and audiences alike.
“The award-winning Broadway musical is based on the movie of the same name and follows the UCLA sorority girl on her journey to the East Coast after being dumped by her boyfriend Warner, to prove herself to the world. A fast-paced trip from California campus life to Harvard’s legal halls, Legally Blonde proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style.
“Lansing resident and frequent OCP performer Mary Maurer is set to tackle the demanding and iconic role of Elle.”
“She’s got so many dimensions,” says Maurer. “She’s this wonderful feminist, fashionista and law savvy tour de force wrapped into one powerhouse of a character. It’s so fun bringing her to life and breaking down stereotypes along the way.”
“Lyn Freeman directs, stepping in as Owosso Artistic Director Garrett Bradley recovers from serious health issues,” said Brooks.
“We miss Garrett’s voice, talent and vision tremendously,” says Freeman. “But what we’ve found in his absence is the true spirit of theater – coming together in challenging times and creating something to be proud of as a family.”
The cast is rounded out by local theater veterans and newcomers alike, including Mandy Bashore as everyone’s favorite hairdresser, Paulette; Dan Inglese as the affable Emmett; Joseph Baumann as the blood-thirsty Professor Callahan; Alex Willett as the shallow Warner; Kristin Rebera as the transformative Vivienne; and Erica Duffield as the wrongly-accused Brooke Wyndham. Ollie the Chihuahua makes his stage debut as the fashionable canine accessory, Bruiser.
“This is sure to be a sell-out,” says Brooks. “Audiences are truly going to be wowed from start to finish with everything from the amazing dancing, to the poppy vocals, to the impressive set and costumes – this show has it all.”
Legally Blonde: The Musical will be at 8 p.m. Sept. 11, 12, 18 and 19 plus 3 p.m. Sept. 13, 19 and 20 at the Lebowsky Center in downtown Owosso. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and students and $10 for children 13 and younger. Tickets are available by calling (989) 723-4003 or online at www.owossoplayers.com/tickets. “Legally Blonde is generously sponsored by William C.
