Interested in attending Leadership Shiawassee or sending staff members? Persons are invited to attend a Leadership Shiawassee Information and Overview Coffee Hour on Thursday, July 16 from 8 to 9 a.m. at The Baker College of Owosso Welcome Center. The session will give a preview of the class meeting dates, content and registration information. Scholarships are available from the Cook Family Foundation and the Leadership Shiawassee Alumni Association.
A partnership of Memorial Healthcare, Baker College of Owosso, and the Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Shiawassee provides creative leaders for the region by educating participants about the region, encouraging them to get involved in their community, and providing the knowledge for meaningful action. Leadership Shiawassee provides a mechanism to develop and enhance the skills and knowledge necessary for today’s leaders to meet the challenges of tomorrow’s workplace and community. Good leaders know the importance of lifelong learning and networking.
Leadership Shiawassee is a nine-month program, meeting monthly at a variety of locations. Participants will learn leadership principles, skill sets and how to apply them to career and community service. The total program will run from September 2015 through May 2016. The graduating class of the 2016 program will join an elite and highly recognized group of 419 graduates of the Leadership Shiawassee Program since it’s founding in 1996.
Candidates for the program are present or emerging leaders from the Shiawassee area’s diverse community. To qualify, a candidate must have demonstrated leadership qualities in his or her profession and/or community and a willingness to contribute to the community’s future. This year up to 26 individuals will be selected for the program. Candidates may enroll themselves or be sponsored by their employer, a community organization, or other recognized agency.
