A partnership of Baker College of Owosso and the Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce (SRCC), Leadership Shiawassee provides creative leaders in the region by educating participants about the region, encouraging them to get involved in their community, and providing the knowledge for meaningful action. Leadership Shiawassee provides a mechanism to develop and enhance the skills and knowledge necessary for today’s leaders to meet the challenges of tomorrow’s workplace and community. Good leaders know the importance of lifelong learning and networking.

Leadership Shiawassee is a nine-month program, meeting monthly at a variety of locations. Participants will learn leadership principles, skill sets, and how to apply them to career and community service. The program will run from September 2017 through May 2018. The graduating class of the 2018 program will join the elite and highly recognized group of 435 graduates who have completed the Leadership Shiawassee Program since its founding in 1996.

Scholarships are available from the Cook Family Foundation for nonprofits that are participants in the foundation’s Nonprofit Capacity Building Program, and for business leaders from the Leadership Shiawassee Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Candidates for the program are present or emerging leaders from the Shiawassee County area’s diverse community. To qualify, a candidate must have demonstrated leadership qualities in his or her profession and/or community and a willingness to contribute to the community’s future. This year up to 18 individuals will be selected for the program. Candidates may enroll themselves or be sponsored by their employer, a community organization, or another recognized agency.
