GIFT OF SIGHT – Laingsburg Eye Care held its sixth-annual “Emergency Day” on Monday, Sept. 28, where Marsha Brandon, O.D. and her five staff members provided free eye exams, frames and lenses for community residents without insurance.
Dr. Brandon and her frame and lens supplier, Harbor Optical of Traverse City, partnered to provide single vision, bi-focal and tri-focal lenses to seven patients during this year’s event. Dr. Brandon, who has been practicing in Laingsburg since 1999, hosts this charitable event every year to coincide with her birthday as “a birthday gift to the community.” The doctor said that her motivation for the giveaway was “to help the high number of uninsured members of her community get back on their feet” and to make sure residents “can do the necessary things like drive their car to work.”
Homemade cupcakes and lemon water were available to those who came in for the event. The office also holds a candy buy-back after Halloween every year and reserves the months of November and December for “Let’s Help Days,” where the office provides exams for reduced costs.
