Joshua’s House International held an informational and fundraising brunch at Byron’s First United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 21, as their step in an effort to gauge the community’s interest in the charitable foundation’s services. The group is looking into adding a facility in the Shiawassee or Genesee County area and is beginning the fundraising effort as they look for a suitable building. The organization is currently located in Clare, but they are seeking to expand their services to include up to six Michigan communities in the near future.
The organization, which was founded by Executive Director Reneé Jeffords in 2008, houses expectant mothers and prepares them for life after pregnancy, in an effort to save as many children as possible from falling victim to early termination. They have also housed homeless men and families during their time in Clare, but expectant mothers and their children are really the group’s focus. The Clare house has room for six women presently and has helped upwards of fifty women during their seven years of existence. In addition to housing the women, Joshua’s House educates each of them with the skills that will be necessary to raise the child on their own.
