SAFETY PROJECT – Shiawassee Township, in conjunction with the Shiawassee County Road Commission, recently installed a 300-foot-plus guardrail on the east side of Bancroft Road, north of Bennington Road at a cost of $4,000.
The guardrail is positioned to prevent motorists from careening into the nearby Shiawassee River, which has a 12-foot drop in that location, only fifteen feet beyond the edge of the road.
Motorists routinely speed around the sharp curve at 55 mph, despite the suggested 35 mph posting. The guardrail, which is constituted of repurposed metal, is equipped with impact safety devices at either end of the apparatus. The new guardrail was assembled the week of July 20.
