The Durand Area Schools Backpack Program helps hundreds of students avoid hunger each year. Over the past three years, the Durand community has come together to help fund the program through numerous fundraising events.

On Saturday, Sept. 9, the Durand Lions and Rotary clubs will continue that support by holding the 3rd annual Durand Area Schools Backpack Program Golf Outing at Dutch Hollow Golf Course, with the proceeds to benefit the backpack program. The cost is $240 per four-player team, which includes door prizes, a hotdog at the turn, and dinner following the 18-hole scramble. Registration begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, with the shotgun start at 10 a.m.

There are also still hole sponsorships available for $50 per hole. Checks should be made payable to the Durand Lions Club, and they can be mailed to or dropped off at SAGElink Credit Union, 311 N. Saginaw St., Durand 48429. Anyone with questions can email the Rotary Club at jgomos@frontier.com, or the Lions Club at ljd255@lentel.com.
