The Friends of the Shiawassee River invite everyone to their annual Wine Tasting Celebration Fundraiser on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Owosso Country Club, 4200 N. Chipman St., Owosso. The event is generously sponsored by The Schluckebier/Hood Wealth Management Group of Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC, Young Buick GMC, and Main Beverage Company.
While enjoying fine wine and delicious food, attendees will have the opportunity to bid on themed silent auction baskets. The Friends will also be announcing the winner of their recent kayak raffle, sponsored by Fifth Third Bank. The evening will culminate in a competitive live auction featuring two extraordinary pieces of original art by Owosso artist, Linda Beeman and Ovid artist Tom Tomasek.
“We’re especially excited about this year’s event for a number of reasons,” said Friends’ Board President Tom Cook. “Our new Executive Director, Lauri Elbing, will be in attendance. She is eager to meet community members and lead our organization to even greater successes. We’ve also been selling kayak raffle tickets all summer – so lots of people are eager to hear who will be the lucky winner.”
“And,” Cook says, “there will also be a special addition to the list of wines this year. We’re not sharing that information ahead of time, so folks will just have to show up to be in on the surprise!”
The Friends’ Annual Wine-Tasting Celebration is their signature event and primary means of raising funds for the year. Monies raised will sustain the good work of the Friends – a group of individuals who are committed to caring for sharing and enjoying the Shiawassee River. Proceeds will help support the annual river clean-up and other efforts that promote enjoyment of the River, improve its water quality and protect the riverside environment through educational activities.
