THE SHIAWASSEE ARTS CENTER (SAC) is excited to announce the opening of the first exhibit of 2019, featuring the works of artists Janet Goldstein, Glen Lewis, Elizabeth and Michael Sevick and Madison Van Epps. The show is sponsored by Dr. Michael Schmidt.
The exhibit opened on Tuesday, Jan. 22 with the public welcome to attend the opening reception on Sunday, Jan. 27 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Janet Goldstein (above) is from Grand Blanc by way of Montreal, Canada. She is shown beside a piece she created representing fluidly colorful marbles. Goldstein paints from photographs taken on leisurely walks and often embellishes reality to achieve the desired effect in the painting. The group of paintings featured in the new SAC exhibit is an eclectic mix of scenes – each painting done with dry pastels and oil paints. Goldstein has also mastered works in watercolor, acrylics, graphite, charcoal, gouache and ink sticks.
The Shiawassee Arts Center, located at 206 Curwood Castle Dr., Owosso, is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The arts center features the artwork of local and statewide artists in eight galleries including the Frieseke Gallery and the specialty gift shop. The public is welcome and there is no admission charge.
The current show will go through Sunday, Feb. 17. An all-media, water-themed juried art competition will open on Sunday, Feb. 23 in celebration of the SAC’s 2019 Smithsonian Waterways exhibit.
