THE 2015 Art Bra winning entry belonged to Micki Jansen, who submitted in the Artist category her creation, “A butterfly never sees its wings.” Jansen is no stranger to winning as this was her second overall win. The winning entry is the entry that receives the most votes in the form of tickets purchased by the public. First runner up was LaBella’s Salon & Spa for their entry “When Life Throws You Lemons Make Lemonade.” (Independent Photo/JANAE FEAR)

Memorial Healthcare Foundation had their fifth annual Silver Stars “Support the Foundation” Art Bra Reception Thursday, Aug. 20 at the Comstock Inn and Conference Center. The event raises funds to offer cancer screenings to individuals that are either underinsured or have no insurance. Over 80 Art Bra entries were created by both individuals and businesses, which were then voted on by the public. The event was very well attended as Matt Hufnagel, Executive Director of Memorial Healthcare Foundation, noted that they would have to put out more tables and chairs at next year’s event.

The 2015 male event models included David Hood, who emceed the event, Kevin Kregger, Alec Faber, Brent Corbin, Mayor Ben Frederick, Larry Atteberry, Joe Leonard, Chris Bird, Tyler Yaklin, Aaron Maike and Jeff Deason. The comedy of men modeling Art Bras and collecting money was contrasted by testimonial heard from Lisa Chapko, who was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago at a Memorial Healthcare sponsored free cancer screening event. Chapko is now cancer free thanks to excellent care she received at the Memorial Cancer Center. The Cancer Screening Access Line is (989) 729-HOPE (4673) ext. 6786 or 1-800-206-8706 ext. 6786.
