Editor, The Independent:
How many of you went to the Veterans Day Parade in Durand this year? How many of you are veterans and didn’t get recognized for your service?
For all the veterans who didn’t get a “Thank You,” we want to say “Thank You.” Our veterans have gone above and beyond to serve our country and deserve our gratitude.
With that said, how many of you have ever given a thought to joining the VFW? The VFW is a great place to talk with other veterans, get involved with community projects and help our youth to understand what a patriot is.
The VFW, or Veterans of Foreign Wars, has local Posts in Byron, Corunna, Durand, Owosso, Perry and New Lothrop. All of these Posts are looking to increase their members.
If you’re interested in finding out more about the VFW, and how to become a member, you can contact any of the Posts for more information.
Now, if you’re a mother, sister, brother, son, daughter, wife of a veterans who has served overseas, you may be interested in the VFW Auxiliary. We are no longer called the “Ladies Auxiliary.” We are the VFW Auxiliary and are now accepting males into the Auxiliary. With this change, we have the opportunity to really increase our numbers.
We have local Auxiliaries in Byron, Corunna, Durand, Owosso, Perry and New Lothrop and you may contact any of these Auxiliaries for more information about eligibility.
Be proud of who you are and the service you have done for your country – and remember the VFW and VFW Auxiliary are proud of you too.
With our thanks, VFW Auxiliary 5822, Byron
