Independent Editor,
I’m going to vote for Ben Frederick as State Representative in the Republican Primary on Aug. 2. Several important factors lead me to this decision. Here are a few of the key factors.
First, Ben is a man of solid beliefs grounded in our nation’s democratic values. He certainly knows how to govern, but what I especially like is that he knows the limits of government action, too. Foremost among his personal values is his respect for life. He is endorsed by Right to Life of Michigan.
Ben cares about our local communities. He has significant service in local government including as Mayor of Owosso. As Mayor, Ben reaches out to many local organizations and groups including visiting my church’s (Redeemer Lutheran – Owosso) 50th anniversary celebration four years ago. Since I live in Perry, that was my first meeting with Ben and I continue to be impressed with his leadership.
I have spoken personally to Ben and was duly impressed by his knowledge of and interest in education and local schools. He would be an effective voice for maintaining a proper balance of academic subjects and vocational education. The agricultural, construction and manufacturing industries are known to be in need of properly trained and skilled workers. Ben would support policies that meet these needs.
Ben’s prior experience in legislative work has prepared him well to achieve legislation that will benefit our entire legislative district. He also will know the danger of too many unfunded mandates on local schools and unwarranted intrusion into local educational policies.
