The Shiawassee County Democratic party would like to salute all active duty, reserves and retired U.S. military along with their families, and the millions of veterans from the American Revolution to the War on Terror whose memory we honor. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed that November 11th each year would be marked as Armistice Day to “…be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service…” during World War I. After World War II, Armistice Day was expanded to celebrate all veterans. Veterans and their families make great sacrifices and put their very lives on the line for something most Americans take for granted each day, our national security. Besides defending our homeland, members of the military perform hundreds of other domestic operations to benefit citizens like preventing illegal drug trafficking and natural disaster relief. They are the most respected part of our Government and they bind us all together with a sense of national pride. Every person in the U.S. benefits from your hard work, dedication and bravery and for that, we sincerely thank you.
