Recently I had the opportunity to tour the Shiawassee County Jail. I was shocked at the condition. Prior to serving as your State Senator I was in law enforcement for 31 years. I was both a sheriff and a jail administrator. During those three decades I had the opportunity to see many Michigan jails. I have never seen a jail in worse shape than Shiawassee County’s. The structure is in bad shape and is very hard to maintain. I don’t think it is safe for the officers or the inmates. I believe the jail should be replaced and urge citizens to vote for a replacement.
