Please join us at the Shiawassee County Fair Animal Auction Aug, 14 and 15. The member pantries of the Shiawassee Hunger Network and the Board of Directors of Shiawassee United Way wish to invite community members and businesses to attend the Shiawassee County Fair animal auctions both days.

Last year, generous businesses and individuals purchased and donated 99 animals with a total hoof weight of 5,056 pounds. The meat was distributed throughout Shiawassee County to people who could not afford this necessity. Last year, Hunger Network pantries collectively fed over 24,553 people over 240,764 complete meals.

The Shiawassee Hunger Network is an alliance of 11 independently run pantries. This alliance ensures that hungry people are fed throughout Shiawassee County. There are many benefits of membership for the pantries. For example, pantries receive grant and United Way designated funds, annual donations of several hundred pounds of food and professional support from Shiawassee United Way staff.

The public, too, benefit from the Shiawassee Hunger Network. Donations stay local. Administrative fees are kept to a minimum as professional staff services are pooled to serve the entire network. Finally, an important community safety net is strengthened and run in a highly efficient manner. Please join the Shiawassee Hunger Network on Aug. 14 and 15 at the Shiawassee County Fair to support our 4-H and FFA youth and to help your community members in need.
