Shiawassee County is one of only a few fortunate counties that have a Faith-In-Action Respite program available to residents. Volunteers help adults with persistent health needs and their family caregivers, and provide friendly visits and respite to the family caregivers. Elderly are able to remain living safely in their own home knowing that Respite Volunteers of Shiawassee will check in on them and provide friendly visits. The volunteers usually live in the same community and share the same interests as the person they are visiting. Volunteers only need to attend one training session. The next Respite Volunteer Training is on Aug. 23 in the Father Whelan Room at St. Paul Catholic Church in Owosso, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. To register for the training, please contact the Respite Volunteers of Shiawassee office at (989) 725-1127. For more information about our services, see our website, www.respitevolunteers.org.
