Independent Editor,

In regards to Greenwood Cemetery in Vernon, the lawn is outrageously high and the cemetery is not being maintained like it should. It is very disrespectful to the military that are buried there, as well as those families who also are buried there such as my parents, grandparents and my sister. I have other family buried there, but they have family members who can maintain their own plots.

I had a guy come up to me and ask me who is suppose to take care of the cemetery. After seeing it in such disarray on Tuesday, June 18, I got a mower and went over on Wednesday and mowed my parents, grandparents and sisters’ plots. I also mowed soldier Shane Cantu’s area, for what that young man did for his country. We can at least keep the cemetery looking great. I did not trim around his area, as I did not want to disturb what is around his marker. I will let his family do that.

If you have a loved one there at Greenwood Cemetery in Vernon, grab a mower and trimmer and volunteer your time. It’s getting close to the 4th of July and the cemetery needs a big clean up.
