Editor, The Independent:
I’m writing to encourage you to get out and vote on Nov. 3 for the Corunna bond proposal.
The list of proposed changes that the bond will cover are NEEDS, not wants, or “nice to have” items. These items will HAVE to be addressed, either by the bond or by district operating funds. Since the district has already trimmed the excess from the operating budget, any additional cuts will likely affect district staff, which has an immediate impact on the educational opportunities afforded to our children.
Many of us parents went to Corunna schools in our youth. We benefited from previous bonds passed by our parents and grandparents. It’s time that we carry our share of the load and provide the same opportunities for current and future generations.
We had record turnout for the May 5 proposal and it fell just short of passing. Still, 7 out of 10 of us did not even vote. Please, do not expect this proposal to pass by other people voting. It’s not sufficient that your spouse got out to vote; it’s incumbent upon each and every one of us to get to the polls.
Please go to advancingcorunnaseducation.org to get additional information regarding the proposal. Or email me at email@example.com with questions and I will try to get them answered.
