I would like to thank Burns Grange for hosting the “Meet Your Candidates” event on Tuesday, July 17. I learned a tremendous amount of history about Burns Grange from the members hosting the event. Burns Grange is the oldest farming association in Shiawassee County, established in 1873. The Latin word for Grange is grain. Burns Grange supports Shiawassee County by purchasing dictionaries for every 3rd-grader in Shiawassee County each year for the past 16 to 17 years. The Burns Grange members who distribute the dictionaries are affectionately referred as the “Dictionary Ladies” by the 3rd-graders. Burns Grange holds a chicken dinner on the first Sunday of October, November, March, April and May from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the proceeds going towards the purchase of the dictionaries. I am told the chicken dinner is the best there is around. Please mark your calendars to attend and support Burns Grange and Shiawassee County.
Those in attendance heard from various candidates seeking positions representing Shiawassee County. The evening was very informative and non-partisan. A huge thank you to Burns Grange for hosting such a wonderful evening.
Cynthia Farrell, Candidate for Shiawassee County Commissioner District 2
