Editor, The Independent:
Residents from Junior High through adult can win one of 33 prizes totaling over $1,200 by submitting an essay relating the words of the First Amendment to a quote by John Adams. This is the second essay contest this year by GodandGov.org, supporting a grassroots effort by businesses, organizations and people in the Shiawassee County area to promote God in our communities.
The first contest, held in July, used the media of art, essay and poetry to promote our National Motto, “In God We Trust,” awarding over $2,600 in prizes to 26 individuals.
This October, in association with our recent Constitution Week, the contest will only be for essays, but still open for all residents, Junior High through adult, of Shiawassee County, Chesaning and Ovid-Elsie. Contestants register online and submit their work online by Oct. 25.
Complete instructions and contest rules can be found on the website GodandGov.org.
