THE DURAND VFW Post No. 2272 gathered Saturday morning, May 27 to place approximately 250 flags at Greenwood Cemetery in Vernon in preparation for Memorial Day. The group met at 9 a.m. and worked until after 10 a.m., and then they all gathered again on Tuesday, May 30 to remove the flags.

While the task of placing 250 flags at the cemetery is a daunting task all on its own, many headstones are unmarked, which leads to some veterans not being honored with a flag. The VFW members placing the flags can identify many of the unmarked headstones, but they do not want anyone to be forgotten or overlooked. As such, the Durand VFW would appreciate a marker being placed on or near any unmarked headstones to ensure that every veteran buried in Vernon is included in the future.

Shown following the placing of the flags on Saturday, are (from left) Rick Rumery, Mike Patterson, Durand Auxiliary President Barb Dingman, Rick Graim, Durand VFW Trustee John Weir, Mel Reitzel, Durand VFW Chaplain Pat Boudro, Mike Dingman, Mike Lincoln, Durand VFW Quartermaster Mike Shepard, and Dennis Martin, who will take over as the Durand VFW Commander in June.
