MARK FARNER’S American Band will headline the 3rd annual Durand Veterans of Rock ’n Roll benefit concert, on Saturday, Aug. 17, at Roundhouse Stadium in Durand. The group’s first two concerts raised approximately $95,000, benefitting Welcome Home Veterans in Bancroft and the Durand Veterans Memorial Park. The proceeds from this year’s concert will be split between the Durand Veterans’ Relief Fund and Durand Union Station, Inc.

Doors will open at Roundhouse Stadium – 9575 E. Monroe Rd., Durand – at 4 p.m., with a veteran tribute ceremony kicking off the event at 5:30 p.m. The Durand Veterans of Rock ‘n Roll will take the stage first, followed by Mark Farner’s American Band, which is headed by Mark Farner, formerly of Grand Funk Railroad.

Farner was accompanied to Durand on Wednesday, June 12 by his wife, Lisa, to receive a key to the city and a plaque designating the rock-n-roll icon an honorary member of the Grand Trunk Railroad. Durand Mayor Deb Doyle presented Farner with his key and 2018 Railroad Person of the Year Jerry Chapman presented the honorary plaque.

Shown during the presentations is (from left) concert organizer Greg Martin, Lisa Farner, Mark Farner, Durand Union Station Executive Director Mary Warner-Stone, concert organizer and Durand Veterans of Rock ‘n Roll front man Bob Sager, and Jerry Chapman.
