Rock the Block (RTB) is an all-ages community event featuring living music, vendors, children’s activities, food trucks and craft beer and wine. The event is being co-sponsored by the city of Durand and the Greater Durand Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc. Activities will be staged along the 100 and 200 block of N. Saginaw Street in downtown Durand. The event kicks off at noon on Saturday, July 13 and continues until 9 p.m. Kid’s activities and vendors will be available until 7 p.m. There is no charge to attend the event and activities will be hosted rain or shine.
The RTB Kid’s Corner offers activities and entertainment for children, including a bounce house, dunk tank and carnival games. The Kid’s Corner is located on E. Clinton Street next to Stomping Grounds, the official Kid’s Corner sponsor. Special kid-friendly entertainers will be on the main stage from noon until 1 p.m., including comedy magician and entertainer Cameron Zvara. Activities throughout the venue are provided courtesy of numerous area nonprofit and civic groups.
Guests can also stroll the venue to discover craft vendors and merchants, plus some of the area’s best food trucks, including HQ Vigilant, Got Smoke BBQ and Yeller Dogs. Beer and wine sales will be offered from noon to 9 p.m. at the beer booth located on the 200 block of N. Saginaw Street, just south of the music stage, sponsored by Déjà Vu Services. Alcohol sold during the event can be consumed anywhere on venue, but guests are not permitted to bring outside alcohol or carry out alcohol from bars and restaurants.
Arrive early to check out the exciting line-up of bands and stay for the official RTB After Party, beginning at 9 p.m. at D-railed Bar and Grill.
The Durand Educational Foundation and Durand High School sophomore class parents will host a dunk tank where community members will have an opportunity to drench teachers, a school principal, coaches, police officers, business leaders, firefighters and students. A schedule of individuals who will sit in the dunk tank will be posted at the Durand Chamber of Commerce by Wednesday, July 10. Proceeds from the event will go toward DHS 2020 Post Prom and Durand Educational Foundation mini grants.
Starting the week of the event and until 6:30 p.m. during the event, guests can purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a camper’s dream package, including a tent, chairs, portable grill, cooler and more.
