The Durand City Council held interviews for the four finalists for the Durand City Manager position on Thursday, Nov. 10 before conditionally offering the job to Michael Sessions. Currently the City Administrator/Clerk for the city of Morenci, Sessions has also served as a program specialist with Enterprising Health of Detroit, as the Downtown Development Authority Director for the village of Blissfield, and as the Mayor of Hillsdale. City Manager Amy Roddy reports that a background is currently being conducted by Michigan Municipal League Lead Executive Recruiter Kathy Grinzinger, and that Durand’s legal counsel will be negotiating the contract.

Sessions, Vester Davis, Ellen Glass, and Jim Coleman, were each interviewed by the council at Durand City Hall on Nov. 10. The council took a brief break at the conclusion of the interviews and reconvened for a discussion. Council members Tom VanRiper and Connie Cobley each liked Coleman, while the remaining five members favored Sessions. Though he is the youngest of the four finalists, Sessions won the council over with a good interview, combined with his diverse professional experience in the public and private sectors.
