RELAY FOR LIFE team members were asked to wear their oldest Relay t-shirt for the opening ceremonies on Friday, June 16 at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds. Doris Harper, of the Rambler Rays, wore her shirt with the design from the Millennium in 2000.

Harper said that she has been involved with the event since 1999, and recalls when it took place in Corunna’s McCurdy Park.

The team she began with was originally called Bump’s Boosters after Robert “Bump” Lardie: a teacher, coach, and administrator from Perry Schools. He passed after battling cancer in July of 2000. The Perry athletic field has since been renamed in his honor. Bump’s Boosters has evolved into the current Rambler Rays.
