THE Veterans Committee from UAW local 659 made a donation of $1,280 to Jerilyn Strein, director of the Shiawassee County Veterans Affairs and Services, toward the purchase of a DAV transportation van. Gathered were (from left): Duane Ballard (Army veteran) UAW local 659 Finance Secretary; Tim Duplanty (Army veteran) UAW local 659 Recording Secretary; Jerilyn Strein (director, Shiawassee County Veterans Affairs and Services); Leon Chase (Chairman, UAW local 659).

Leon Chase makes a challenge to all UAW and local businesses to match or beat their donation to help in aiding the Shiawassee County Veterans Affairs and Services in obtaining an additional van for the use of transporting veterans to their VA medical appointments. “We also would like to thank all veterans for their service to our country,” it was noted.

The Shiawassee County Veterans Affairs and Services is raising money toward their goal to obtain either a second van or a replacement van. “The DAV (Disabled American Veterans) donates half of the cost of a brand-new van but we must come up with the rest,” said Strein. “Estimated amount to raise is $15,000.” (Courtesy Photo)
