“THERE’S A VERY WICKED ’55 Chevy lookin’ for you,” is a famous quote from the 1973 coming-of-age movie, American Graffiti, which is about socializing and cruising in an age before cell phones and social media. Cruising is exactly what occurred in downtown Owosso on Saturday, May 14 where hundreds of cars with occupants of all ages, traveled in a slow circle from the JCPenney parking lot, up Washington St. to Mason St., and back around to Park St. Many area people will recall ‘Cruising the Pits,’ as it was called in their younger days. The recent Saturday evening activity was a direct reflection of the old area car cruises from the 1960s through to the early 1990s. (Independent Photo/Karen Mead-Elford)
