“WINTER IN THE MITTEN” was unveiled during the Sunday Market at Durand Union Station on Sunday, Sept. 30. “Winter in the Mitten” is a Christmas/winter-themed anthology written by 18 members of the Shiawassee Area Writers (SAW) group, which was founded in May of 2017. Most of the book’s authors were present for the book release on Sept. 30, and the group sold at least 70 copies throughout the afternoon, with every member present available to personally sign each copy.
Several of the group’s members had previously been published, including Sally Labadie, John Morovitz, Maureen Gilna, Laurie Salisbury and group founder Elizabeth Wehman, but for the others, “Winter in the Mitten” represents their first published work. The members were happy to meet so many interested readers, and several of the authors shared that their hands were tired after signing books all afternoon.
The group began writing the book following their Christmas party last December, and the group utilized Wehman’s Summit Street Publishing company. The group plans to use the proceeds from the sale of “Winter in the Mitten” to fund scholarships in the future.
