THESE 264 PINWHEELS placed in front of the Child Advocacy Center on 1216 W. Main St., in Owosso, as shown here, represents the number of abuse cases served at the center in 2015. The pinwheels were placed in honor of Abusive Awareness, a topic being brought to the attention of the community during the month of April. Abuse is prevalent in Shiawassee County and members of the Child Abuse Prevention Council want to help, and bring hope, to people who find themselves in abusive situations.

The Center seeks to protect children from violence, neglect, trauma, and pain, so they can grow into healthy, strong, well-adjusted adults. Their mission is to help families who have experienced abuse to face their fears and find hope to rebuild and to eliminate child abuse and neglect through advocacy, education, and collaboration in the community.

For those desiring to report abuse, they may call the Child Advocacy Center at (855) 444-3911. (Independent Photo/Karen Mead-Elford)
