Several great events are being planned for the upcoming Chesaning River Days, July 7 through 10 and sponsored by the Chesaning Parks and Rec. Camping begins on Thursday, July 7 on a first come, first serve basis. Guests may stay two nights, get the third night half off, Thursday through Sunday. Margaritaville themed camping will be the highlight of the weekend. Check in will be after 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Fireworks will be held on Thursday, July 7 at dusk in Showboat Park and sponsored by the Chesaning Chamber of Commerce. Cost of this event is $5 per vehicle and entry into the park will begin at 4 p.m. A family affair face art and balloon twist will be 4 p.m. to dusk.

All vendors wanting to participate in the events will need to contact the Chamber for fees and other documentation requirements. Cost is $25 and interested persons may call Rod at (989) 413-8417.

Friday, July 8 will be the Annual Trinity United Women’s Roast Beef Dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church at 1629 W. Brady Rd. Cost is $10. For advance tickets, interested persons may call (989) 845-3157.

A free kid’s movie night will be at the campground featuring free popcorn at dusk. The movie, “Alvin and the Chipmunks, Road Trip,” will be featured. A Chesaning Bike Rally will be held in the tent featuring Midnight Train from 8 p.m. to midnight. (Free cover and everyone must be 21 years of age and over.)

The fun continues on Saturday, July 9 with a softball tournament from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mexican American Festival events include: a Shane Cantu Memorial Poker Run, registration at Back 40 from 10 a.m. to noon and will end in Showboat Park; an honor guard at 10 a.m. in Showboat Park; a hospitality tent will be open from 10 a.m. to midnight; a corn hole tournament from noon to 4 p.m.; live music fro 8 p.m. to midnight; Mexican Bingo from noon to 2 p.m.; a homemade wine contest from 1 to 3 p.m. For more information on any of the Mexican American events, interested persons may contact Rod Cantu at (989) 413-8417.

Cruisin’ to the River 2016 will be held during Chesaning River Days starting Saturday, July 9. The classic and muscle car cruise, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. will be held in downtown Chesaning. Participants are encouraged to take a ten mile cruise to the park at 3 p.m as well as taking the scenic route starting downtown on M-57 west to M-52, south to Sharon Rd., in Oakley, east along the river back to Showboat Park. The public is welcome and admission is free. Music will be by Rusch as well as entertainment and great food. To register for the Cruise to the River, interested persons need to call (989) 845-3055 before July 4 to preregister.

Sunday, July 10 will begin with a Dawn Patrol breakfast beginning at 6:30 to 11 a.m. at the airport. Parks and Rec will sponsor a River Run 5K run or walk. An event t-shirt for the first 100 entrants and glasses for top three male and female walkers and top three in each age group will be honored in the run.
