Marine Corps League Commandant Bill Domby (left) of Lennon and Senior Vice Commandant Ron Anderson (right) of Durand made the presentations. Above them is a painting of the Flag Raising at Mt. Suribachi on Iwo Jima during World War II, as painted by Marine Corps League member Joe Yurek, who was there, then later at Nagasaki, Japan after the atomic bomb blast and developed leukemia from the radiation. He died recently.

Watching the presentation were the twins’ parents, Mike and Mary Rice, their grandfather, Joe Papanek, who was a Lance Corporal during his years in the U.S. Marines, and Scholarship Chairman George Ramos. (Independent Photo/BILL CONSTINE)
