BIG HELP – A check presentation was made Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the amount of $25,000 to the Owosso Community Players Marquee Fund.

The check was donated in memory of Don Schneider, a local film buff and OCP supporter, to help fund the re-lighting of the historic marquee on the Lebowsky Center in downtown Owosso.

Don started the Electric Theater Museum, Inc. in Hollywood in 1979 and began collecting Hollywood memorabilia such as cameras, costumes, posters, slides and other interesting things from movie studios and production companies. He followed his heart back home and moved the museum to Owosso in 1994 and renamed it The Movie Museum, which was located at 318 E. Oliver Street.

Don Schneider’s name will now appear on the side of the marquee to commemorate his commitment to the arts. Owosso Community Players and those closest to Don hope this will inspire others to light the marquee. A crowd-funding campaign was to kick off on Thursday, Oct. 1, to generate the rest of the money needed to bring the marquee back to life.

Gathered early Tuesday evening were (front row holding the check from left): The Movie Museum Secretary Don Nidefski, Vice President Gary Ackley, Treasurer Janice Goodrich and Movie Museum President Jason Hale.
