THE CAST of Dancing With the Starz, a fundraiser hosted by the Owosso Community Players (OCP) and the Shiawassee Arts Center (SAC), took the stage together for the first time on Wednesday, Aug. 2 at the Lebowsky Center in Owosso. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness and provide funding to support performing and educational arts programs in the community.
The celebrity dancers, of which there are 11, will pair and train with professional dancers from Kim’s Dance Dynamics for eight weeks before showcasing their talents to the community on Saturday, Oct. 21. Doors open at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21, and the show will begin at 8 p.m.
Pre-sale tickets can be purchased from the 11 celebrity dancers until Wednesday, Aug. 16, and tickets go on sale to the public the following day, Aug. 17. Balcony seats are priced at $60 per ticket, and VIP floor tickets can be purchased for $100 apiece. All tickets include a complementary commemorative beverage cup, and the VIP tickets include the choice of premium floor seating (first come, first serve), as well as admission to the exclusive VIP reception that begins at 6:30 p.m. and features cocktails and tastes from Owosso’s Restaurant Walk of Fame.
Garret Bradley and Kim’s Dance Dynamics owner Kim Remenec will handle the directing and choreography. The awards will include the Judges’ Award and the People’s Choice Award.
Nine of the “celebrity” dancers were present for the kick-off event on Aug. 2 and can be seen on stage at the Lebowsky Center. Shown with Master of Ceremonies David Hood (center with tie) are (from left) Athena Kurtz, Sarah Collins, Chrisy Schemenauer, Deb Gilbert, Annie Ludington, Brian Reed, Casey “DJ Chewy” Lambert, Michael Gute, and Travis Yaklin.
