CARSON VINCENT recently committed to Mid Michigan Community College (MMCC), where the Ovid-Elsie High School senior will continue his basketball career while working towards a radiology degree. The standout O-E athlete revealed his college choice on Thursday, May 3, in front of a large group of family members, O-E students and MMCC basketball coaches at O-E High School.

Josh Latz, Carson’s high school coach, described his star’s “storied career” for everyone in attendance. During his three years on the O-E varsity basketball team, Carson was a two-time all-league player, finishing his career as the second-highest scorer in O-E history, with 1,026 points, and twice breaking the school’s record for field goal percentage for a season, shooting 61 percent for the 2016-2017 season and approximately 62 percent during the 2017-2018 season. Carson was named an honorable mention player in Class B by the Michigan High School Coaches Association (MHSCA) in 2017, and despite playing with a broken shooting hand for most of this past season, Carson was named to the MHSCA Class B first team in 2018.

MMCC coach Kaleb House and his staff expressed how excited they are to have Carson join their team. Assistant coach Taylor Ardis noted that Carson “should contribute right away” in the fall, and that the team expects the versatile six-foot, five-inch player to be used as a forward and center.

Carson, whose tuition will be mostly covered by a scholarship, does not expect to be handed anything at MMCC. He will use his strengths, such as running the floor, rebounding and protecting the rim, to earn his spot on the team, and he is looking forward to continuing to improve his shooting, dribbling and defense at the next level.
