Friday, Aug. 14, DeVries Nature Conservancy will open the property and invite in the community for a fun-filled camp out. Festivities will include a potluck dinner with hot dogs and brats already donated, Perseid meteor shower viewing, stargazing with telescopes, night owl hikes for the family led by DNC’s Tracy Page, s’mores and hot cocoa, campfire stories and much more.

Participants can then camp out on the grounds for the night. The morning will include breakfast, tours of the Sleigh and Carriage Museum and family exploration time. Families with canoes or kayaks can launch their boats from DNC for a self-guided river trip.

The potluck starts at 6 p.m. and activities run through the night. A simple breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. while campers are packing up. “Bring your own camping gear, water bottles, a dish to pass and bug spray,” said Tracy Page. “If you are musically inclined, bring your guitar to jam by the fire. Campfire storytellers and telescopes are also welcome. Reservations are necessary. Please call (989) 723-3365 or email info@devriesnc.org to register. The fee for the festivities includes camping and food, and is just $10 per family. Members and active volunteers of DeVries Nature Conservancy are free. Call by Aug. 12 to register.

“Interested persons can go to www.devriesnature.org for membership and volunteer information, or can call (989) 723-3365 to speak with Tracy, the Environmental Education Coordinator at DNC, 2635 N. M-52, Owosso.”
