Burns Township Trustee Bill Bowers has donated $900 of his annual salary to fund two scholarships that will be awarded later this year. Applicants must be either Burns Township or village of Byron residents, with past and future Byron High School graduates qualifying. Applicants must be actively enrolled in an institution of higher education to qualify.

Additionally, the village of Byron Chamber of Commerce is donating the remaining $100, which will allow for the creation of two $500 scholarships. Bowers plans to continue to fund the scholarships for as long as he is a member of the Burns Township Board.

Interested persons can visit www.iammea.org/msmith/scholarships.htm, and applications can be found by clicking the “private scholarships” link. Applications are to be mailed to Judy Bowers, 11802 Reed Rd., Byron, MI 48418, by Aug. 31. The scholarships will then be announced in September.
