IN A SPECIAL MOMENT during the Owosso City Council meeting Monday evening, Tom and Patricia Cords, representing the Mid-Michigan Wood Carvers Association, presented council member Burton Fox with a Lean-on-Me Cane in honor of his 20 years of military service to the country and as a Vietnam veteran. The cane was beautifully ornamented with a hand-carved eagle’s head, created and painted by Patricia. The Cords are from the Durand area and are active in trying to bring needed recognition to area veterans.
Fox, along with other council members, were obviously moved by the honor. “So often we veterans, as we serve, our families are left behind,” Fox shared, talking about how his wife had cared for his family while he was gone. “It is often the wives that do not get the credit they deserve,” he humbly said.
Mayor Eveleth thanked Fox for both his service as a veteran and to the community.
