The Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners voted during the Wednesday, Dec. 16, Committee of the Whole meeting to forward 32 committee appointments to its Thursday, Dec 17, meeting for approval. Many of the candidates are being reappointed, but the new terms begin Jan. 1, 2016. All appointments were folded into a consent agenda for the Thursday meeting, with none of the approved appointments being questioned.

Also, Edward Bruckman and Danny Miller were reappointed to the Central Dispatch Board as county elected members at large, Deb Doyle as the city elected member, Charles McKone as the citizen at large and Kyle Bawks as the law enforcement representative for terms ending Dec. 31, 2018. Greg Love was reappointed to the Community Corrections Advisory Board as the community service representative, as were criminal defense attorney representative Matthew McKone, probation representative Heidi Rolfe, business representative Elaine Greenway and general public representative Charles Kerridge to terms ending Dec. 31, 2017.
Additionally, Patricia Cords, Eugene Paez and Mary Buginsky were appointed to the Health Board for three-year terms ending Dec. 31, 2018; Sandra Michalek and Ron Elder were appointed to the Valley Area Agency on Aging for terms ending Dec. 31, 2017, as was advisory council representative Glenn Love; Joe DeCaire was reappointed to the Solid Waste Management Committee for a term ending Dec. 31, 2017; and Jim Woodworth was appointed to the Housing Program Advisory Council for a term ending Dec. 31, 2018.
The board also planned to appoint Douglas Huyck and James Carrothers to the Veterans Affairs Committee, but postponed the vote until January to give the commissioners more time to review the list of candidates. Several county VFW Commanders, as well as Commissioner Les Schneider, took issue during the Wednesday meeting with the recommended appointments, saying that the committee needs new, younger members to be considered.
The board also decided to hold off on hiring two corrections officers for 2016 at a salary range of $38,013 to $42,717 per year. Commissioners Schneider, Hartmann Aue, Jeremy Root and Gary Holzhausen voted to move the item to the January agenda.
