We love to give our readers a chance to voice their opinions in the form of “Letters to the Editor.” We strive to publish as many letters as space will allow in our publications. Due to the massive influx of letters during the election, we would like to inform writers of our “Letter to the Editor” guidelines.

We require proof of residency for all of our letters. We ask you to submit a copy of your driver’s license for our files which can be sent via an email or those submitting letters may stop by our office and we will make a copy for you. This ensures that you are indeed a resident in Shiawassee County. The copy only needs to be made once and we keep the copy of your license on file for future reference. It is not used for any other purpose and not made public at any time.

We require all letters to remain under a 500 word limit. This not only ensures that your letter fits into our publications, but also gives others a chance to also voice their opinions. Letters exceeding this limit will not be published unless reductions are made.

We have the option to reject any letters we deem inappropriate and ask that writers use discretion in personal attacks concerning specific individuals.

You are always required to sign your full legal name, as well as your place of residency as city, village, or township. Your street address will not be printed.
