HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE visited downtown Owosso on Sunday, Dec. 31 for the first-ever NYE appearance of “Lucille” (Ball), shown slowly being raised by an Owosso fire-truck. Lucille, a steel sphere created by Neil Sutton of Durand and “electrified” by Carl Ludington of Owosso, was the colorful centerpiece of the frigid evening, as the sculpture was hoisted high above the city for an inaugural ball-drop in celebration of the start of 2018.

The Owosso ball-drop was a free, family-friendly event, organized by Owosso DDA/Main Street, and supported by a number of area merchants. Fireworks, sponsored by the Shiawassee County Convention and Visitors Bureau, directly followed Lucille.

The ball was slightly damaged after it fell approximately 10 feet at the end of the evening, but will be repaired, and is certain to have many more appearances.
