THE 10TH ANNUAL American Red Cross Mid-Michigan chapter Camel Races were held Saturday, March 19 at the Knights of Columbus hall in Owosso. Close to 250 people were in attendance to participate in 50/50, can, and reverse raffles and the famous camel races. There were 24 camels sponsored for the race this year, each decorated in themes ranging from Dr. Suess by Dr. Michael Kramer D. O. to a camel dressed as a cow by Shipman Farms. The 2016 winning camel was Stechschulte Farms entry celebrating 100 years sponsored by Victor and Patty Stechschulte. It was the second win for the family as they have participated in the event for six years.

“The money raised at the event is part of the American Red Cross Heroes Campaign and will be used to fund the services provided out of the Red Cross Service Center on Corunna Ave. in Corunna, whose priority is providing local services to Shiawassee County and surrounding areas,” said Laura Burroughs, Vice-Chair of the Shiawassee Red Cross Council as well as the Shiawassee representative on the Mid-Michigan Board and co-event chair with Linda Perkin who is President of the Shiawassee-Owosso Kiwanis Club.
