Veterans and their family members have additional access to help with veterans benefits through the American Legion Department of Michigan. Department of Michigan Veteran Service Officer CSM (R) Joseph Di Giovanni will be available to answer questions about VA benefits from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4 at Clare Burt Post 248 of the American Legion, 1240 E. Grand River Rd. in Laingsburg.

All veterans who are serving in the military, veterans who have served in the military, and all family members of veterans are encouraged to attend if they have questions. The service officer can help individuals begin the claims process if needed. Please bring DD-214 certificates and, if possible, any medical evidence, both military and civilian documents. For those without DD-214 certificates, replacement documents can be ordered.

There is no charge for this service. The American Legion Department of Michigan has been providing veteran services for Michigan for 80 years. They have the resources to provide representation in the Detroit regional offices, as well as Washington D.C. if the process goes that far.

For more information, individuals can call (517) 290-8789.
