Two adult clay classes will be offered at the Shiawassee Arts Center and include Pottery on the Wheel, to be held on Tuesdays, Sept. 13 through Oct. 25, (no class on Oct. 18) from 10 a.m. to 1p.m. The class will be six weeks of beginning to intermediate level pottery. Various techniques of wheel throwing, hand building and glazing will be taught. Those wishing to attend need to bring their own tools, a notebook, an old towel, and apron (optional). Individual development is of primary importance. The class includes 25 pounds of clay, glazes and firings. Every bag of clay includes a pot. Attendees are encouraged to dress for mess. Cost is $140 for a SAC Member or $160 for a non-member. Instructor for the class is Linda Ruehle, SAC Staff.

A seven-week ‘Adventures in Ceramic Sculpting’ will be offered on Thursdays, Sept. 15 through Nov. 10 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. No class will be on Oct. 27 and Nov. 3. Explore the fun of clay sculpture with ceramic artist, Jann Johnson Lardie.

The class is for beginners through intermediate adults. Learn the fundamentals of working with clay while immediately feeling the joy of playing in the “mud.” Students can expect to produce one small figure and one larger ceramic bust/piece. Finished pieces will be suitable for indoor or outdoor use. Class fee includes instruction, 25 pounds of clay, glazes, and two firings. Basic tools are available to share at the SAC. Cost is $155 for a SAC Member or $165 for a non-member. Preregistration and payment is required.
