“The Shiawassee Humane Society is pleased to announce the seventh annual 5K9 Day with added fun – celebrating Halloween with your pet,” said volunteers. “Events include a 5K timed, competitive run; a 5K9 run with your favorite canine companion; a 5K9 walk with or without a canine companion; and new this year, a Canine Costume Contest.
“On Oct. 17, the first group of competitive runners will take off at 10 a.m. from McCurdy Park followed by the 5K9 run and then the walkers. Check in is at 9 a.m. at the McCurdy Park Community Center in Corunna.
“Competitive 5K runners will be racing for trophies in best men and best women’s overall and masters. In addition, medals for first-, second- and third-place will be handed out in several age categories. The 5K9 runners will receive ribbons for first-, second- and third-places in classes based on the size of their dogs. Walkers will receive medals for first-, second- and third-places in classes based on the size of their dogs.”

Oct. 13 will receive a long-sleeve T-shirt commemorating the day. Additional shirts will be on sale the day of the event.
A second round of fun begins at 11:30 a.m. with a Canine Costume Contest. Contest categories are: Best U of M Spirit; Best MSU Spirit; Best Look Alike (owner and canine); Scariest Costume; and Cutest Costume. “Registration is only the day of the event and costs just $5 per dog,” it was stated.
