M-57 CLOSED for the Deer Creek culvert replacement in the village of Chesaning on Friday, July 8. A detour is in place to accommodate traffic. According to information provided by the Michigan Department of Transportation, work should begin on the culvert on Monday, July 11 and continue for approximately eight weeks. The culvert should be finished in September. Eastbound M-57 traffic is being directed to N. Front St., then south back to M-57 while westbound vehicles are detoured to N. Front St. to Brady St., then west back to M-57.

Work is continuing on the 90-year old M-57 bridge in downtown Chesaning (above). The bridge replacement process began in Feb. and should be completed in November. Traffic over the Shiawassee River has been restricted to one lane of alternating vehicles with a temporary traffic signal. Davis Construction of Lansing is the contractor working on the bridge. Based on the topographical placement of Chesaning along the Shiawassee River, it was not feasible to replace the entire bridge at one time.

The Gary Road bridge construction has now been finished. Demolition of that bridge began in Jan. and a new bridge was completed in early July. The road is now open to traffic.
